What does the name "Okala" mean?

"Okala" is the common name of a tree - Xylopia aethiopica - found in Gabon and across central and west Africa. The tree is known for its ecological and cultural significance, providing both medicine and shelter to local people, embodying our mission to protect nature. The name varies regionally, known as ‘Okala’ and ‘Ogana’ in Gabon, ‘N'kana’ in Congo, and ‘Akui’ in Cameroon. The tree is found in forest edges, coastal thickets, swamp forests, and evergreen stands.
